The Dangerous Seduction (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

I gave this four stars at first because as usual I can really, really do without the detailed shagging scenes but I can't bring myself to take away even one star because it's half past four in the morning and yes, I have read this book straight through. No matter the excessive amount of naked body parts and what the two main characters do with them, the writing is fucking amazing (nevermind my French). Miss Bond knew what she was doing, typing away her little tale of seduction and intrigue and cleverness. I have seldom seen such a brilliant character introduction like the one she applied to present pretty, sly and cunning Mr. Joseph Van Aardt to the readers. It's impossible not to smirk at him and his demeanor and she knew exactly HOW to make him come across the way he does. Next to that man, Ryan Paullson pales, although you experience everything from his perspective and can't help but feel for him and fall with him. Oh the little idiot. (I loved him, no worries). Books like this make me believe in writing again. As for the story itself, it's cleverly paced and cleverly arranged. It doesn't get boring, you stay glued to the page (or screen in my case) and you never know whether to smack or hug Joseph (sometimes both). He's a riddle and he's a snake and I highly enjoyed the epilogue for it confirmed some of my suspicions and opens the way for a whole new installment. I had trouble getting into the characters of this one, then decided it was a cleaned-up J2 fanfic (no idea if that's accurate or not, but it did feel that way) and that really helped me enjoy the story. Ryan and Joseph were opaque and I didn't see any real connection between them, but Jared and Jensen? Of course they need each other!So... what does that mean as a book? I'm not sure. If it's NOT J2, I guess it means I'm crazy, but maybe also that the characters are a bit hard to grab hold of? I like it that they're complicated, cheating doesn't bother me, moral ambiguity is LOVELY, but Ryan's our POV character for most of the book and I still didn't really get a good feel for who he was, other than someone really ambitious and not too worried about riding on someone else's coattails. And Joseph? I didn't LIKE him much, but I don't really have to like characters for myself in order to think they'd be good for the other MC. But I certainly didn't find the ending surprising...I'm not sure. Worth a read, I'd say, just because it's something a bit unusual in m/m. But it wasn't as satisfying as I'd hoped it would be.
