The Debt & The Doormat (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

This girl's life is a complete MESS in a ridiculously fantastic sense. Anything that could go wrong does in an extreme and ludicrous way at every turn for Poppy. Thank goodness she has fabulous friends to not only enjoy her daily "adventures" and, more often than not, star in them front and center, but also to help bail her out when things get too extreme-even for her! This book was fun and laugh out loud funny. It was a fast read. The language can seem crass at times, but that is part of the character's personality. Most of crass language is only used to be witty and the character using it is meant to be carefree and crass so it's obviously not meant to be taken seriously. I recommend this book if you are looking for a chick lit story that will make you laugh hysterically. I have loved this book. Seriously loved it, I haven't ever laughed at a book the way I have at this one, most of the time it isn't even supposed to be funny but the author has such a way of writing that you just can't help but see the funny side of things. There isn't one bit of sex but you know, it doesn't need it, it works so fantastically well without it. I didn't think I could enjoy a book without some sort of sex and drama. I am so relieved I was wrong. Poppy is the heroine of the story, well she isn't really but bless her she tries so hard to make everything right and still ends up getting it wrong and making things worse. It's like watching a train wreck and having no power to help. Hell I loved Poppy, she is as real as it comes. She is funny, has an over bearing mother, has lumps and bumps too and a best friend there to help her through it all. I didn't think much of Ryan though, he was a pain in the arse at times but there was just something about him then before you know it you find yourself falling for him. If you haven't already read this book then I need to seriously ask. Why the bloody hell not?. You will have a couple of tears, you will most certainly laugh out loud, there's even a pretty good chance that will cringe at some of the more embarrassing parts. One thing I can guarantee is that you will LOVE this book. I can't wait to read the follow on from this as I know it's going to be just as good as the first.
