Beside her, lying stretched out on his stomach on the bed, the Devil slumbered on. One arm was flung across Jess’ waist. The other was tucked under his pillow. His beautiful face was turned towards Jess. Such perfection made her think not of evil and wickedness but of innocence and vulnerability. A strange hollow ache settled itself around her heart, and she rubbed her hand across her chest to ease it. The Devil stirred and rolled to his side.
