very sweet story, Lanyon at his best. And now I must reread* 'I Spy' series, because sneaky author has mentioned the newly discovered book by Dickens from this book** and THEN reread*** this story once again.Dammit, Lanyon, you did this to me with 'Holmes & Moriarity', by casually mentioning Andrien English and then I was in soooo deep. Curses! *Who am I kidding, every book of Josh Lanyon is worth re-reading.**this sentence doesn't make any sense to me either. ***Five times at least. synopsis:james is an antiquarian book hunter who has been marked by a forgery scandal 3 years ago. as a result, even though he wasn't involved in the forgeries, he works on the fringes of his trade. one of the less scrupulous buyers wants him to authenticate a new dickens that has come on the market, but he doesn't want the seller to know who wants to buy it. when james meet sedgwick, he is attracted, but gets kicked out of the room. when james meets an ocelot in the bar, spending his last money, sedgwick buys him a drink and takes him back up to his room. it is a night that james won't soon forget, but when sedgwick makes some comments the next morning, james leaves. when sedgwick tracks him down at a his day job and convinces him to go back, james can't believe it, but things go awry the next day when sedgwick finds out who james is working for.what i liked: the characters were well drawn. i liked that both men were kind of lost and seemed to find whatever they were looking for in each other.what i didn't like: there was an awful lot of drama for a short story.

This a so-so gay romance novel. I would put int he category of a beach read.
