The Dragon In The Ghetto Caper (1998) - Plot & Excerpts
Currently using this book with some fifth grades who struggle with the act of inferring. Many situations lead the reader to question the characters actions. When the grey Plymouth on the side of the road is accused of suspiciously housing possible bad guys, why doesn't the good church woman think to report it to the police? As the stack of Friday New York news papers sit stacked in the house, why only Friday? Many great places where a reader should be asking wondering questions that could lead to making inferences. The content is age appropriate for fifth grade, but due to many ten year old's limited exposure to criminal behavior, guided reading helps bring the story to life.
There is always a secret to everyone and this just shows you a bit of a secret at the end. with gamblers.
