I am a big admirer or H.P. Lovecraft's works, and while The Dunwich Horror is an essential part of his mythos, I actually found it less engaging than a lot of his other stories. It would serve as an excellent introduction to Lovecraft, but personally I just didn't feel the "what on earth is going on, what might happen on the next page?" feeling I get from so many of his works.I judge it so harshly only because it is Lovecraft, it's still head and shoulders above the competition (a bit like criticizing a Pixar film). It has the signature elements that make Lovecraft so unique and memorable, it was probably more the structure of the story than anything that left me wanting more. It was written when he was transitioning over into novellas and he was still figuring out how to write longer stories.I still liked it, don't get me wrong!
What do You think about The Dunwich Horror (1928)?
I've read this twice. Really good story. Probably my favorite by Hp Lovecraft.
