The Dyslexic Advantage: Unlocking The Hidden Potential Of The Dyslexic Brain (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
Formatted well: lots of white space, chapter bullet summaries, narrative in style. The front end discusses trade-offs and the reader comes away with a clear picture of strengths/weakness of the dyslexic brain. The back end discusses compensation strategies, resources, and a very interesting discussion of how to teach dyslexics writing (short, but makes sense to me....top down instead of bottom up!). Handy Appendices. I'm considering a copy for my home reference bookshelf. This is a wholly different way of looking at dyslexia. Not as a learning disability, but as a brain architecture that comes with its own set of strengths and weaknesses. And what strengths... What amazing abilities are described here. It almost made me wish I has those same gifts. As I read this book, highlighter in hand, I found myself nodding... muttering to myself, "yes, oh that's brilliant." Great tips, great encouragement... So glad I read this.
