The End Of Summer (1997) - Plot & Excerpts

What do You think about The End Of Summer (1997)?

Out of all the Pilcher books I've read, I think this one and The Day of the Storm are the only ones I'd really recommend -- at least to start, until you get sucked in to the whole escape into the Cornwall countryside I-don't-have-to-feel-guilty-because-it's-not-quite-a-romance-novel thing.Because I read practically all of her books one summer -- well, the thin ones like this -- over ten years ago, most have blended together in my mind. I'll have to give them another look to see if they are worth the ratings I've given.

After years spent living in the United States, Jane returns to the Scottish estate of Elvie, where she had spent a magical childhood. Memories of a lifetime spent at Elvie had always summoned the image of Sinclair to Jane's mind. Sinclair was the rakish man Jane had once dreamed of marrying, but now that she is home, she finds Sinclair to be an entirely different man from the one she had known. His enticing charm now has a purpose, and Jane can no longer trust him...or herself.I enjoyed this book quite a bit. In my opinion, it was a very easy and pleasant read for me. I didn't think that this was a particularly earth-shattering story, but overall I gave The End of Summer by Rosamunde Pilcher an A!

I absolutely LOVE Rosamunde Pilcher. My friend Sofia's mom got me hooked about 12 years ago (she was, I think, just happy that I loved to read as much as she did!)...everytime I'd go visit, mom would give me another RP book to read and love. I read all the RP books that she had and all the books that the libraries had and thought I'd read all of them until I found a stash at a 2nd hand bookstore here in Alabama. I know RP wrote most of her books before I was born but even though they're at least 35 years old, the stories never grow old and her characters are always relatable. She makes you FEEL like you're part of the book, part of the family, part of the estate...she's timeless.
