Amanda is trying to get almost Ex-husband Charlie to sign the final divorce papers, and in a fit of frustration, threatens to kill him (not really-just some hyperbole!). Charlie refuses, Amanda takes off on her bike, the brakes fail and she flies off a mountain, Charlie shows up and goads her into walking back to the road to get help. When she wakes in the hospital, only to find Charlie is up dead, and Amanda is seeing and hearing him, she KNOWS it must be hallucinations. But Charlie is convinced that he is stuck here and can't "go to the light" until he helps Amanda catch his murderer and stop said person from murdering Amanda. Amanda wants to catch the murderer because the police are looking at HER as a likely suspect, and she knows she didn't do it! Thus begins a journey into Charlie's past- one Amanda knew nothing about, and the hunt to prove the killer is really a killer. I enjoyed this book- Amanda is likeable, gutsy and someone you would like as a friend. Charlie is in turns, likeable, annoying, whinny and everything that Amanda said he was in life. The other characters in the book, from Amanda's dad to the police detective to the killer, are fully fleshed out and fun to read. This is the first book in the series, and I will be looking for more of them soon! This book really should have gotten higher rating. It was an entertaining light mystery through most of the story. The main character was likeable and the ghost of her ex, a lifetime scam artist who finds himself unable to lie after death is interesting. The characters are a little flat, especially the characters that are supporting characters. My biggest disappointment with the book was the end. Everything fell into place as if by some magic because it wasn’t realistic. There really wasn’t support for some of the amazing things that finished the book but the reader is just supposed to accept them. When the dust finally settled and the book ended everything was wrapped up neatly with unrealistically Pollyanna emotion but the story wasn’t over due to one more improbable character emption. This made way for a second book that I don‘t think I’ll be reading.I’ll stick with book 3 in Sally Berneathy’s Death by Chocolate series.
What do You think about The Ex Who Would'nt Die (2000)?
Sara makes you laugh, cry and just want to take a chocolate break to make the day go right.

Very cute story, while being thrilling and suspenseful.
