The Exception To The Rule (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
I think I have read all of Beth Rinyu's Books. I have loved them all, An Unplanned Lesson, Drowning in Love and now The Exception to the Rule. Beth has given us books that we can all relate to, connect in an emotional way. they make you laugh, they make you cry, they make you want to smack the characters for being so dumb sometimes, this book is no differentKat Vallia is a Peds Doctor going away from home for the next 9 months to help kids in small villages in Africa. she is going with a team of other doctors from her hospital as well, her mentor Charles, good friend Tricia and new doctor James. Kat lost her mom at a young age from cancer Charles wife Claire has been a wonderful fill in for her. Her father Anthony has done everything he can to raise Kat. he is now retired from the police dept. Kat arrives in Africa not really knowing what to expect. they are staying in buildings that don't have window, water that smells and has a brown tint, food that sucks, she isn't really sure how she is going to make it through, until she meets Dr. Julian Kiron. she feels an instant attraction to him, but he wants so many different things then she does, she want to be a mother, a wife, and a doctor. he wants to be the best of the best, he doesn't feel that he has room in his life for a wife and children. about half way through her time in Africa Kat gets a phone call that chances everything she must leave right away and knows that she won't be coming back. Her father that means the world to her is fighting cancer and she needs to be by his side. Kat has to make choices that she thinks is the best for her and Julian, but when she needs him the most because he is the best of the best she has to live with the choices that she has made. does she regret never telling Julian about a child she knew that he never wanted, she now needs him to save the most important thing in her life. As a mother myself, this book truly touched me, I would never want my child to have to go through the things that Matty had to go through, the difference in how Men and women feel about things, how doctors are supposed to shut of their emotions but when its your own child its not always an easy thing to do. This was a very intense story and so very, very real in its telling. Told from Dr. Katrina Vallia's point of view author Beth Rinyu does an excellent job of pulling you into Kat's life. The rollercoaster of emotions Kat experiences as the people she loves and cares for come in and out of her life. I admired Kat"s strength and willingness to move forward with an open heart despite setbacks and losses. She is a passionate woman who didn't hold back when it came to offering her love but who also knew what she wanted and refuses to settle for less. A successful pediatrician whose greatest dream is to have a husband and children of her own.Dr. Julian Kiron is a beautiful, kind, engaging man and a brilliant, ambitious, pediatric oncologist driven to focus solely on his gifts to bring healing to others. Fully willing to sacrifice any sort of a personal life or family of his own to devote himself to saving the lives of other people's children. He is adamant he never wanted to be a father, because he is sure his career was more important and refused to raise a child who would feel like they were second best as his own father had made him feel. He also didn't want to ask a woman to accept that half life either so he focused on being the best in his field and kept his "relationships" to one night and never promised more. Until he met Kat while they were both giving their time to the sick children in Nigeria. Their attraction was immediate and strengthened daily by mutual respect and friendship. She becomes the exception to his rule and they fall hard for one another only to allow their differing visions of their future to divide them anyway. Thankfully, this is not the end of their story. A tragic and heartrending situation brings them back together as they both learn what true love means. Ms. Rinyu has written a story that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. A passionate example of real love in it's every form. *I received this book through a giveaway contest.
