Like Annakin Skywalker, Ethelinda (from the first book) has returned. But this time she is determined that she won't make any of the same mistakes. Can the baker's son, a golden goose and Ethelinda make the princess laugh? Each of these books is a charmer, filled with witty fun. Each has a message without being the least bit preachy. I would recommend this series to anyone with a daughter... or a granddaughter.. or to anyone with estrogen. Another great book by Gail Levine. This one is based on a fairy tale about a princess who doesn't laugh and how her father tries to find someone (NOT a commoner) who can get her to laugh. Of course, she has already found the one she loves who makes her laugh, but he is a commoner. They are both sad and lonely until they find each other, but are kept apart because of their social status. Read it to find out how they finally get together!
I love how witty and creative Gail Carson Levine is when she retells fairy tales!
