Oh lordie jesus! This book…this book was fantabulous! This is the prime example of a perfectly written and believable male POV. I read the first paragraph and my eyes never once pulled away from the pages. I was sunk in, enraptured, held tightly, and hugged warmly into this story.“She was tempting the beast, the one he tried and always failed to hide, and with every word and gesture, she incited the hunger, the ache he felt deep in the pit of his stomach. She didn’t want him; she’d made that much clear. And for that matter, he didn’t want her either. So why couldn’t he get her the hell out of his head?”Evan is addicted. To women, to sex, to coming. His addiction runs him, controls him, and lives his life for him. He goes out each night in search for his next fix, next high, and then it starts all over again. His mind was dirty, gritty, honest, and real. He’s spiraling out of control, and he knows it. But his dick runs his mind and body. While we never see outside of Evan’s POV, we do meet Reagan. She’s in control of herself, knows what she has, and has no shame. I absolutely loved her and I barely knew her! If that ain’t great writing, then I don’t know what is.“‘Reagan…’ His voice was like gravel as he tried to slow himself down. ‘Tell me you want this. Tell me you’ll let me have you.'”There were moments during the dark parts of his brain that even I became anxious, worried, and out of control. It was written so spectacularly, that I felt like I was him. And because I felt it all, I couldn’t help but feel for him. I wanted to hug him and pat his back while telling him, “hush, baby.” It was an amazing, wonderful, and incredibly sexy start to a new serial, and I am DYING (dying!) for more. I can’t wait to see more of Reagan, to feel more of Evan, and to learn more of the story.**Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review** I believe I have an addiction to novels about sex addiction which was not truly satisfied by this novel. The one scene on the train was the only jarring note in this otherwise fine book when he contemplates sex with a guy than decides he was not desperate which is contradictory to the title of the book 'A Desperate Man'.This than makes this book just about a man-whore & not a sex addict which entails an addiction to any kind of sex no matter how demeaning just to get that rush & not just to a specific gender as indicated in this bookA true sex addict would not choose between genders.I mean for a guy desperate enough to f**k a vaseline bottle,it would seem any port in a storm would do just not a man.I feel the authors did this book a disservice by not taking the'sex addict' to the very extreme because there is no true distinction between this character or any other alpha male in any other book that craves sex.You have not shown this reader what desperation entails & it's not by having sex with random bar maids. One of the truly authentic books about sex addiction that I've read in this year is Scarlett Blackwell's Compulsion(Addiction).Maybe this why this book felt like less than it's true potential cause I've read 'desperate' already. So other than that unauthentic note the book was good but otherwise tame because it has nothing raw,new or shocking to make it truly stand out.If this book was just about plain hot sex I would have scored it a solid hot 5 but since it's being put as a book about a sex addict than it fails in that aspect.Maybe the next installment would prove me wrong.
What do You think about The Fantasy (2000)?
