The Feng Shui Junkie (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Nice and fun. Second part of the book is less funny but i still liked it very much because there are all those feelings up and downs in Julie's head. Story summary : (view spoiler)[Julie, helped by her best friend Sylvana, takes revenge on her husband Ronan and his mistress Nicole (by destroying their possessions : car, house, cabinet, pets, paints,...) but somehow get close to Nicole (without Nicole knowing that Julie is Ronan's wife). At the end of the book, Nicole is dumped by Ronan (he dumps her because she got pregnant) so she goes away to Amsterdam and Julie fills divorce papers even though Ronan wants her back. Julie and Nicole stays friends. (hide spoiler)]

I thought I was going to read a light hearted chick lit. However the casual treatment of the domestic violence appalled me. More care is lavished on the damage to the car than to the woman who isHolding a bloodstained handkerchief to her nose. Her left eye is swollen and closed ... Her lip is cut and enlarged, and blood is streaming over her jaw and dripping onto the pavement... Her other arm is folded around her stomach as if she is in pain. Her partner has tried to drown her.But we ignore all of that and encourage her to go back because she doesn't have anywhere else to go.I am putting this book in the recycling, I don't want anyone else to read it

What do You think about The Feng Shui Junkie (2000)?

Hilarious at first, really well written from inside her head. I get the reasoning (or lack thereof) completely as explanations for her actions. Very funny, many laughs. But as time passes it gets kind of repetitive and feels a little too long. The last chapters, from France and onward, are really not so interesting. Feels like it tries to be deep and analytic which is totally different from the first half, so it is not really what I wanted.Very good in the beginning and not so good after a while. The end is just confusing.
