This is a short story about a married couple with a proper English marriage. Eleanor wants more from her husband, but doesn't want to ask for it for fear of being turned away. He occasionally wants more from their marriage as well, but his concerns for his work in parliament always overcome his desire to get to know his wife.Until he hires her a new French ladies maid. Babette makes Eleanor realize both she and Henry have been lazy about their marriage...but putting her heart out there is harder than expected. If he rejects her, will be recover? This was a sweet story. The length doesn't lend itself to a lot of character or plot development, but Jeffries did a credible job of putting us inside both characters. This was a novella and not a full book. Story of a maid who brings together a couple whose marriage is in trouble. The husband ignores his wife completely as he is only interested in political aspirations. The maid works with the wife mainly. She says they are both lazy and unwilling to work on their marriage. I'm not really liking the novella format as I always feel like the story is just not developed enough for me so that is the only reason I gave this a 3.
A short Quick read!! Maid is the 'Mary Poppins' for the married couples :)
