I tend to dislike books written in the present tense. I'm fine with first-person narrative; it's the present tense that bugs me. In my mind's ear, the voice always devolves: "I reach up and scratch my nose," sounds in my reading ear like Lucille Ball's scene with the guy going, "Slooooowly I turrrn. Inch by inch. Step by step!"Maybe it's just me, but I can't get past the present tense voice. If anyone is silly enough to review this as a serious novel, they have rocks in their head! Cinderella meets her Prince in the modern world and it all goes on from there! The usual hiccups occur and they are overcome - but this fantasy has a particularly good thing going for it - the heroine, "Cinders" herself - sex researcher, Leigh Fromm, a girl from Colorado. Of course that the hero is good-looking and not "up" himself - as we say in Australia, meaning "thinks too highly of himself" - helps mightily!The thought processes of Leigh make this plot come to life in the most delightful way, bringing many laugh aloud moments throughout the story. A few very enjoyable hours went into reading this book, subsequently lifting my spirits which were "saggbing umber a veddy hebby colb!" :)
