If you are looking for serious Sci-Fi or serious fantasy, don’t buy this. If you are looking for a humorous mash up of the two, buy this book!I bought this on a sale and regret that I didn’t buy it sooner. If you have ever had that thought of what would happen if a space faring group of travelers ran into a group of humans using magic in the place of science, and then had to figure out how to work together to defeat an unknown alien threat, this is the place to go.The writing is well paced; the detail given to each set of humans is enough to be believable without the common flaw of trying to explain the unexplainable future tech. The action and the acts of the central characters is relatable and believable, to include the tyrannical ship’s captain. This is a fun book that pokes fun at both Sci-Fi and fantasy while doing a respectable job of smashing them together and running with it in a cohesive story line. Amaturish writing and story/world building. The story lacks depth of detail. In one sentence you see the expected lack of knowledge about the universe through a description of layers. In another there is a careless reference to "outer space" and a "galactic mage" before the two cultures "meet." I was stunned to read the line "led around by your c*nt" ... it was out of place and unnecessarily crude. If there had been other hints of such harshly crude comments from this character, it might have made sense. As it was, it stood out and jarred me out if the story. I won't be reading the next book.
What do You think about The Galactic Mage (2012)?
