The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks (2008) - Plot & Excerpts
That shock at the fact that I not only like, but love a Josh Lanyon book is astounding. I always like the author's style of writing and little things about his characters but this book was incredible. Maybe Nick was like Jake Riordan (from AE Series) minus the self hate homophobia. Nick was incredible, and Perry, although w/ an illness (much like Adrien English) was soft on the outside but really strong minded and kind of kick ass on the inside. I liked the mystery of the book and I loved how Nick resisted Perry but eventually gave in. The ending was perfect and sweet and did not leave me angsty and grieving - much like the Adrien English stories. Other points. (Neg and Pos.)I liked that this book was NOT first person POV, however the POV shift at times from Perry to Nick to Perry was too random. But I love the old gangster / haunted house / creepy peeping Tom themes that it makes up for everything else. Although, I could have done without the dead fish imagery, thank you very much. This read was really fun! I am very happy that I chose it for Bingo, because I probably would not have gotten around to it for a long while based on the title. What a crazy houseful of people this book was. They were quirky, funny and a little bit spooky in their weirdness.I really liked Perry. Yes, he is a Twink. But he was determined and brave. I also loved the fact that Nick did not treat him like a piece of fluff. Nick was totally blown away by the feelings that Perry inspired in him.I would have liked some more romance, especially at the end. I think this is a book that could have been expanded into something greater than it is. But what it is, I enjoyed very much.
