A well researched book that is rich in detail and it's descriptions. The author, Beatrice Colin consults a relative whom had roles in the film industry in 1920-30's Germany. This is the story of the life of the heroic Lily in early 20th century Germany. It follows her life, trials and tribulations with love, friendship, war and poverty. . She begins her life as an orphan and then becomes one of Germany's most loved stars. She works on the burlesque scene and finds fame. It is an absorbing read full of rich characters, ones that you get to know very well. It is a rollercoaster of an age and industry to be part of and this is highlighted in the book. Lily experiences dramatic highs and lows, both in her personal life as well as due to the turmoil within her country. It is a colourful evocative tale, has definitely encouraged me to seek other novels written by this author. just started to read it....getting a feel for the charathers...you know the people who the story is about.....little lil, my foot....listen so by now you know i am not big on spelling.....anyhoo,......i liked this book very much, you can feel the tension even more as the book sinks in and you go over parts of it in your mind.....self discussion if no one esle is around.....i think of the chilling way that hanne died, and think.........wow........what a way to go.....did that really happen to someone , some where in time.......
What do You think about The Glimmer Palace (2008)?
Throwing in the towel. I hate to do it, and very rarely do, but I just couldn't get into this one.

Awesome book...it really gives a look into the "other side" of Nazi Germany during the 1940's.
