The Good, The Bad And The Multiplex: What's Wrong With Modern Movies? (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I like listening to Mark Kermode (the film podcast with Simon Mayo is a weekly highlight) but, by god, this book was infuriating. Kermode's style of writing allows for a lot of digressions. So much so you are begging him to get to the point. I sort of agree with his arguments but he takes a hell of along time to make them. Possibly the book would have worked better as a series of (shorter) articles. Ah well... Enjoyed this a lot - I love Mark Kermode, and even if he is a little more obsessed with films than I am, his opinions are incredibly well-informed and interesting. My favourite chapters were the ones about how films actually make money and what's wrong with 3D and remakes - you know on some sub-conscious level that these things are no conducive to making good films, but it's refreshing to hear a well-thought out reason why, and to know that these things go beyond a personal preference.Great read!

Got quite bored by the stories and just stopped caring. And also reading.
