The Gravesavers (2005) - Plot & Excerpts

This book had two stories told in it. One of them is in the present and the other is told from the past. Somehow the two stories ties everything together. It is about a girl name Cinnamon Elizabeth Hotchkiss, Minn for short. Minn was sent to spend the summer with her grandmother, who she thought was a witch. Not so long after, she found a tiny, perfect human skull. She kept the skull and talked to it like it was her little sister. Minn was supposed to have a little sister but she died when she was born. Later she finds out about the town saga that there was a shipwreck, and everyone who was on the ship died except for the boy. He survived because there's a man that stops him from going back for his family and he survives the shipwreck. The other part it was told from the past, as I said before, and it was talking about how he(John Hindley) survived the shipwreck and what happened. Basically, it was talking about the tragedy of John Hindley.I picked up this book and started reading this because this book was recommended to me by my friend(Shawna), and when I took out this book, others told me it was a really good book.I finished this book because I wanted to know what happened to with the mystery. I would recommend this book to Mary because this book was amazing. Mary has recommend some books to me that were really good and I think she would really like it because the writing is different from what she reads and its good to try new things.

After the miscarriage of Minn’s baby sister, her parents send her to live with her sour grandmother in Boulder Basin for a summer. When she arrives there, she finds a tiny perfect skull that washed up on the shore from a forgotten grave site of the SS Atlantic ship. Minn is determined to save the rest of the grave from washing away with the help of her new friend Max. Throughout the book, Minn discovers romance and that her grandmother may not be so sour after all. She also discovers that she may be the only one that can fix her family's broken relationship. I picked up this book because it was a Red Maple book. I loved all the Red Maple books I read in the past so I decided to give it a try. I was kind of indecisive later on if I should read it or not, but I'm glad I did.I finished this book because the plot and characters were easy to relate to. It was really interesting and my attention was caught from the first few pages.I would recommend this book to Chenny because she borrowed a different book also by this author (Sheree Fitch) and I think she would find this book interesting.

What do You think about The Gravesavers (2005)?

This was a really well-written piece, though quite sad. Minn goes to live with her grandmother and finds that her Nana is trying to save the graves of people who died on the S.S. Atlantic many years ago. I liked how we got two different perspectives for this story, that of Minn living in the present, as well as John, a boy who was on the ship. Different perspectives always throw a different light on a story, and in this case really helped as Minn doesn't know a lot of the details of the crash so it makes sense to have a second speaker. At times I found the time lapse of Minn to be confusing, as she starts to go back into her own past but doesn't make a clear jump back to the present. Her character also seemed pretty young for her age, so younger readers may find an easier time connecting with her.All in all, a good read but quite heavy in its content.

This book is one of the most amazing that I've ever read, honest to God. I can't even describe what a remarkable and captivating story it holds. The realness of the characters and the way Sheree Fitch describes how events unfold...... it gives me goose-bumps just thinking about it. I would definitely recommend this book. I will admit that I wasn't so thrilled and excited about it during the first few chapters, it does have a bit of a slow start, but you have to give it a chance. You will be blown away. It actually has a sad ending, but I guess I'm just a bit of a hopeless romantic :). READ THIS BOOK! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

After reading this book, I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the grave of the people who died in the crash of the SS Atlantic. In fact, I bugged my mother so much to take me, she finally gave in- and adored it. The fact that this book moved me so much to make me want to go visit a grave when I was ten is unbelievable, and hopefully enough to make you want to read this book. I haven't a whole lot to say about it. I can't remember very specific things about it, considering the last time I read it was two years ago, but I do know that I've had it on my top book lists for a very long time. Minn is such a lovely character, and her grandmother is somebody that grows and works well for the story. All the traditional plot points are there, but you can also catch a few twists thrown in. Overall, this book is amazing. Sheree Fitch is one of my favourite authors, and I hope that, since she lives a stones throw away from me, I can meet her one day.
