Once again I fell for all the five-star reviews. "The Green-Eyed Doll" is considered a romantic-suspense novel. I'm sorry but after reading this only two words come to mind: "long" and "boring." First the romance; for a woman who was once married to a man who verbally and physically abused her, I would think trusting and falling into bed with a man within a few days of meeting would not take place. Even before this, Catherine is showing up at Matt's house making his dinner. To this I say "What the hell?" Who does that? What's more mind-boggling is her declaration of "I love you" to Matt so quickly and accepting his marriage proposal so quickly. The fact that there's no heat or chemistry between the two doesn't help. For a sheriff, Matt is so stupid. He knows Catherine's been abused yet when he finds out her secret, he leaves in a huff instead of thinking it thru. Good grief, what an idiot. As to the mystery of who the "killer" is, the police department did a horrible job of checking out the list of men they had. Since Sue (the dispatcher) knew absolutely everything about everyone in town going back fifty years, why not ask her some of the questions they needed answered to figure out who the killer was? I really wish author's would take the time to at least make the story a little more realistic, or at least re-read what they've written. Why does Matt need Sue to tell him JC's address when he's been to his home twice? Hello?? Once again, LONG and BORING. THE GREEN EYED DOLL is a super romantic suspense novel. Your heart will jump into your throat at the first words. It will ache with the heroine's predicament. When Catherine and Sheriff Matt meet, your heart will swell with anticipation at the possibility of their love. These are good people who have both been hurt and because of those hurts should want nothing to do with each other. But we all know the heart will have what it will have. With one of the scariest villains I've ever read and a wonderful mongrel dog who has taken up with Matt, the book is charged for takeoff. When the author throws in a record-breaking summer heat wave scorching the earth, it explodes from the page. You'll never put it down. Fortunately for us readers, her next book THE LAST EXECUTION comes out summer of 2013.
