I am thoroughly impressed with author Jana Petken's The Guardian of Secrets. This saga was heart wrenching and emotional, as well as educational. The story has well developed characters that you can't help but feel for. Their stories are so gripping you will find yourself tangled in their lives and unable to put the book down. As long as this book is, it is a surprisingly easy read. One book you will not regret picking up.As I read Celia's story I felt her pain and heartache. I sensed her betrayal. I had such disdain and disgust for Joseph and his ruthless horrible behavior.I could not help but root for Celia as her life changed and she grew to develop into a strong woman. I loved learning about her new found love with Ernesto. I won't say more because I don't want to spoil this book and all the wonderful stories it holds within. What I will say is, well done Jana. I learned quite a bit about this time period and I enjoyed every minute. You did a phenomenal job telling the story of this family. Bravo! The Guardian of Secrets and Her Deathly Pact is a little out of my normal reading stream, but wow am I glad I picked it! The way the story is weaved together to bring the story of Celia Dobbs and her life of abuse makes he reader feel Celia’s pain as well as her victories. The author has done a phenomenal job in crafting the characters of the story. There were times when you wondered who was really the villain.Historical novels present a huge challenge for any author to assure that the story matches the history. Jana has done a fantastic job with her research and made sure to bring the pieces together into a smooth, fast moving story that draws the reader in and doesn’t let them go.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be taken on an emotional roller coaster. I’ll be looking forward to more books from this debut author!
