The viniculture class had gone half an hour over, and she’d had to sneak out the back before the wrap-up. At least Adrian hadn’t scowled at her. He was finally beginning to believe that she really didn’t want a lead role in the family’s California wine business. He’d been disappointed, but she hoped that when the time was right to confront their father, Adrian would back her up.Vico had slipped out behind her and caught up with her at her car. He’d invited her out for a ride to see a property he said he was considering recommending to his family. In her hurry to leave she’d said yes, even though a quiet voice in her belly had told her to refuse. She couldn’t say exactly what it was about Vico that set her defenses off, but something about him just didn’t fit. The agitated look in his eyes when she’d glanced at him during the lecture disturbed her. Though he professed deep interest in the subject, his fidgeting behavior suggested he’d rather be anywhere but in the class.
