The Hole In Our Gospel: What Does God Expect Of Us? The Answer That Changed My Life And Might Just Change The World (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

This book is one of my top 5 life-changing texts. Richard Stearns is one of my heroes, and he paints the picture of God's passion for the poor and the needy in a convicting, hope-filled, and loving way. I've read this book twice now and both times left me shaking my head in astonishment at the truth behind Stearns' words. What good news have the world's orphans yet seen? Why do we barely stutter over the devastating statistic that more than 26,000 children die every day from poverty-related causes? Read The Hole in Our Gospel. It will change your life and bring you into further connection with God's tender love for the poor. We read this for a small group we are in at our church. I found the writing style to be very engaging and easy to follow, allowing it to be accessible to anyone, rather than being full of theological mumbo-jumbo. However, I did have some issues with some of the generalizations and historical inaccuracies. I was also disappointed that the majority of the book is spent telling the reader about the poverty, AIDS epidemic, lack of education, etc. in Africa but ends the book by basically saying "so what?" I get that the reader needs to make his/her own decisions about the personal response...just a bit bothered by the ending.
