I, myself tend to be worried about being late, so this story was a bit disturbing. I couldn't tell if our subject knew what he was in such a hurry to be on time for. I wont ruin it by discussing it here, it is the main point of the story after all.I think the pacing was rather well done, and the writing was a bit creepy for me as the inner monologue of the main character while he was driving was so close to my own!For a short story this was interesting. Not really scary or horrific, but a disturbing look into humanities minds. Everyone shows up and waits to make their appointments. I am so interested in this story arc to find out if people know whats going on, what the society is like that this is a normal thing. If everyone goes to the same room? What happens if you don't report in?I now, so many questions from such a short story, but it was well written and very thought provoking! I got this as a freebie and it is very much well worth your time to peruse! A very suspenseful read: At first, the description of the protagonist's physical appearance and agitated behavior made me laugh, but there was always an eerie shadow lurking behind it all. This story offers a glimpse into the hypothetical future of our planet. It really makes you wonder where humanity is headed, and if the powers that be will resort to dealing with the overpopulation issue by subjecting their citizens to the same fate that Charlie met. I know it's only fiction, but it's a chilling thought. Apart from the excessive use of profanity, I did enjoy this fascinating short.
