The House At Rose Creek (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

(Genre:LDS fiction) 3 stars. I enjoyed it. Some parts of the book dragged a little, but I thought it was a nice story. Orphaned as a young girl, Kate was raised alongside her cousins in the Rose Creek home of her maternal aunt and uncle. Once, very close to her family (especially her cousin Linny), Kate has drifted apart from them to the point that she didn't attend Linny's husband's funeral when he passed away. Kate's focus was very much on her career and an important meeting happening the same day, that ultimately helped her obtain a promotion at work. But upon receiving word of her aunt's passing, Kate decides that she must return home for the funeral despite her hesitance to see everyone again. Sure enough, her meeting with Linny is awkward and cold. Linny hasn't forgiven Kate for her inattention during her husband's terminal illness. Those feelings of animosity increase when the will is read and Kate inherits the family farmhouse instead of Linny. The house has been in the family for generations and Kate is so grateful for the unexpected inheritance. She assumes that her aunt left her the house to remind Kate that she was and is still a part of their family despite the distance that she has allowed to grow between them. Kate tries to decide what to do with the house. She lives and works hours away, but she is reluctant to give up the house that was not only her home while growing up, but also her mother's home as a child. Complicating matters is the possibility of losing the house to the development of a new state highway right through her newly acquired property. While up in the attic of the house, Kate discovers an old journal written by an ancestor. As she reads about her ancestor's life so many generations ago, she finds parallels in her own life, to guide her in decisions she must make regarding family, career, a potential love interest, and ultimately her relationship with God. This was a great story. A beloved aunt and mother dies. She leaves her old farmhouse to her niece, which makes for some hard feelings from some of the family. The niece lives and works in New York. She meets one of the people who live in the town of Rose Creek, where her aunt lived, and starts to have feelings for him. The old house is also in danger of being torn down to make way for a highway. I really liked this book, as did my daughter.

What do You think about The House At Rose Creek (2013)?

This book had a lot of geneology in it, but it was rather on the dull side.
