The Hunter; The Chase; The Kill (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
In this series there are three stories in this one volume, The Hunter, The Chase, and The Kill. It starts off with our main character Jenny who wants to find the perfect game for her boyfriend, Tom’s birthday party. Her and her seven friends get together to play this game, but as they start to play, the things start to become a reality of their worst nightmares and they can’t get out until they win the game. Each novel has a game that the characters have to play to survive. It’s a really interesting theme for a novel, and it would make a great movie, but after the second game, the plot gets boring, and readers just want to figure out if they’ll win or lose. The plotline grows stale, while the characters get predictable. The first two books are great, but the third just shouldn’t have been included it just dragged on. Overall, it wasn’t really worth the read to get to the end, but hey, read if you want to! This is such a unique story and I am so thankful that Smith is an author who is able to properly execute this story and have it live up to its full potential. One of my favorite elements was the character growth. Jenny eventually grows into a strong female lead, while in the beginning she lacks that strength. I loved how strong the bond was between the friends in her group and how they too experience character development. I found that I cared about every single one of them and was on the edge of my seat during intense scenes when I wasn't sure if they would make it or not. I would also like to mention that the ending of this book was absolutely heartbreaking and made me sob like a baby, BUT I think it was the perfect ending. I wish I could give this book 6,000 stars.
What do You think about The Hunter; The Chase; The Kill (2000)?
This book is not quite 4 stars and not below 3. I've never read anything of L.J. Smiths' before so I'm judging her writing based on this. The first book was absolutely amazing. The idea of the plot and the writing was so good I couldn't put it down. The second and third book, however, wasn't amazing. I didn't like that the main character,Jenny, had to keep going back just to get rid of Julian. I also didn't like Jenny. She was just another typical white girl in any other story. She had good intentions but the way she thought and her actions made me hate her. I can see why people like this book but it just wasn't worth five or four stars to me.

I love this book so much!! It is now my favorite book! I literally read it in 3 days. You are constantly on the edge of your seat waiting to seat what happens next. It definitely makes you think about your own fears. - A little like divergent during the simulations...At the end I was crying so much! Half because the book was over! And half because Julian died! :( he could have just told her he loved her! Amazing book that I will certainly read again and again.L.J. smith is also my favorite author. She is such a good writer and creative!! I love Dark Visions, the Vampire Diaries, and all the Night World mini books!!
