It takes something special for me to purchase books these days because so many of them fall short. I listened to author Holly Peterson do a radio interview recently and instantly adored her. She sounded like some of my close friends; grounded, real, intelligent and honest. So I purchased it and was hoping to love it. I've had a difficult time from the very beginning getting vested in this story. Peterson certainly has moments of great writing but the characters here are not engaging or very likable. It could be there's simply an idea of too much going on here; the main character is dealing with her husband, her old flame, her writing partner and the haunting of her late father's death. A simplified storyline for readers of fiction is the name of the game in order to be successful. I had such a hard time getting through this book. I was not a fan of the main character. I was annoyed and wanted her to leave her self serving, arrogant husband but she kept hanging on ..... the story line did not progress as well as I would have wanted...nothing thrilling here. I like the title of the book because I think alot of us fall in love with the idea of a man instead of the actual person but this story didnt really capture that for me.
A bit disappointed in this one. Just couldn't get into it.
