The Immortal Highlander (2005) - Plot & Excerpts

Damn, it's good to be Adam Black - sorry, I couldn't resist, LOL - but I bet it's better to be Adam Black's lover!Adam is one of those heroes you just love to hate - or hate to love, either way works for me. He was selfish, arrogant, manipulative and didn't have any qualms about using anyone and anything to his own advantage. He was also as handome and sexy as one can be, which only helped him to get what he wanted. BUT there was something beneath all that, something that shouldn't be there considering he was basically a soulless and unfeeling Fae. Had it always been there? I really didn't see it in the previous book in the series, and I think KMM has done a great job making me believe in Adam's "change of heart" - figuratively speaking, since Faes don't have hearts.Gabby was funny and likeable, but not really remarkable. I think the "problem" was, Adam stole the show and she didn't have enough "spark" to stand on her own. Bottom line, she wasn't as interesting as Lisa, Gwen and Chloe, the heroines in the previous books. BTW, Gwen, Chloe and their respective MacKeltar husbands - sighs! - make more than an simple appearance and play important roles in The Immortal Highlander. I have to say, their reactions when they see Adam "in the flesh" for the first time was priceless, LOL. I had expected to see Circenn too - after all, he was Adam's son - but he was a no-show. Oh well, we can't always have it all, right?Once again, KMM told a story that kept me captivated and entertained. The love scenes were hot - not hard to imagine, since Adam oozed sex appeal - and there was always something happening to keep me turning the pages anxiously. Aoibheal's revelation after she restored Adam's immortality was unexpected and I had a hard time buying it. I really didn't see how he could have been fooled like that. Anyway, that wasn't enough to ruin the story for me.This book was nicely tied to the previous ones in the series - I particularly liked how Adam made everything "right" for Circenn and Lisa, the H/h in The Highlander's Touch -, so this is one series that definitely must be read in order.

Stripped from his Fae powers and forced to live in the human world, Adam Black has never felt so vulnerable in his entire existence. With only the ability to sift in short distances and invisible to all humans and fae alike, his punishment from Aoibheal is one of pure torture. It isn’t until he realizes that only one other person can see him that he has some hope to become the immortal once again. Gabrielle O’Callaghan is a woman who possesses a rare ability to see both realms: mortal and Faery. Plagued with this burden her entire life, Gabby finds herself hating the Fae and even more, hating her undeniable attraction for them. When Adam seeks Gabby out to ask her to help him find his son Circenn in order to bring him back to face Aoibheal, sparks fly and the chemistry sizzles as Gabby tries to resist Adam’s charms. The Immortal Highlander is a fascinating, well-written story that questions if a Fae prince without a soul can give up his entire heart for a mere mortal.Moning crafts amazingly well-paced stories in this series, but I have to say that the Immortal Highlander may be my favourite of the bunch. Though Adam Black can be seen as the bad guy, there is just something so darkly alluring about the bad ones that you can’t help but love. Black is no exception. He is enchanting, compelling, passionate and downright sexy. Familiar faces are bought back into this book. The MacKelter twins, Drustan and Daegus and their wives Gwen and Chloe make appearances that make a reader like me grin from ear-to-ear. With such memorable characters with distinct personality traits and quirks, Moning makes me wish I were able to travel into their world and experience the magic myself. With one last Highlander book left for me to read, I am a little saddened to know that the end is near. I’ve fallen hard for all the books in the series. Bringing sexual tension in spades, Moning certainly knows how to do a romance right. I just hope that she’ll one day return to this time and bring us more highlander heroes to die for.

What do You think about The Immortal Highlander (2005)?

First read January 2013Reread February 2015I guess I loved this one more for the homey feeling I've gotten. So much like Fever, so close to the world I love so much. And here comes Adam to seal the deal. Adam and his ka-lyrra.I loved Adam since his first appearance in Beyond the Highland Mist. Not that he was a sweet, good guy or anything. I just knew from Fever that he was going to become a good fella. And he did! And then some.I rarely cry when I read. But the ending of this one drew a few teardrops from my left eye. That was a little too much for my fickle heart. A lot in this ending I didn't see coming and I just have to add that I hate KMM for ruining the other books with her Fever and Highlander series. But what really is gnawing at me right now is, What on earth will happen to Mac's soul now that she drank the darn elixir as well? But I'll take solace in thinking that Cruce had improved it and there are no more side effects. But knowing Cruce... Oh, my God, why did he give Mac indeed?!

Oh god, so I'm still a little embarrassed about my love of these books since they were my first taste of a romance series. But if I'm being honest with myself, if KMM writes 50 of these, I'll happily devour them and get all giddy at the predictable, soulmate/eternal-love-finally-found conclusion. I keep telling myself it's because these are tie-ins to the fever series, but I think I'm just one of those suckers for a HEA and I can live with that. I am however, a little over all the sexifying and how cut and paste it has been throughout the series. All the twenty something virgins having their "maidenhead" taken by a massively endowed (not to mention strong/rich/drippingly sexy) highlander. And I would be happy if I never read the words "puckered crest" again, they cropped up in all 7 of these books! The thing is, I just love the way KMM writes and sets up her stories. I find it well thought out and from Kiss of the Highlanderon, the beginnings of her rich Fae world are forming and the plots all flow together nicely.I have a challenge for anyone reading this though...is there a man alive that can pull off long hair? I mentally gave each guy immediate hair cuts, lest I had to bleach my eyes actually imagining these bloody highlanders with hair to their waist! Eeewwww!

The Immortal Highlander was another 5+ instalment from the Highlander series :) Karen Marie Moning just keeps getting better and better with every book :)I've read the first one and didn't like it much, but in a way I'm glad because Adam Black first appeared in that one :) Although, I have to say, he was pretty bad in the beginning, I would never have thought he'd get his own book, he was like the bad guy :O But boy am I glad he did <3In the previous book Adam sacrifices a part of his life force to save Dageus's life, and for that he is punished by his queen. She sent him to the human world, turned him into a human, and on top of that, he became invisible to everyone. Poor guy. Gabrielle is a decendant of people who are able to see the Faery, and she lives in constant fear of being discovered. One day she stumbles upon Adam, and she's unable to resist his good looks (it's actually seriously fan-fucking-tastic, mesmerising, panties-melting, gorgeus, seductive, perfect looks) and he begins stalking her as she is the only one that can see him. Adam and Gabby were really great! He is pretty used to his awsomeness, he actually expects ever woman to fall at his feet because he knows he is irresistible. That, of course, doesn't happen with Gabrielle (oh yeah you go girl!). The first time they meet she runs away, than she kicks him in the head XD That was funny hahah, and Adam can't believe she's not falling for him. So he, of course again, decides to seduce her XD They had their happy moments, but i'm kinda upset the first sex took so long to happen :PPP But oh well XD Drustan and Dageus appeared in this one, oh how I loved that part <3 <3 And one of the best scenes is when they see Adam hahahahahah that was great :)The ending - wow the ending was just perfect! One of the best epilogues ever, I cried like a baby It was just beautiful, what Adam did and how it all turned out Considering they all get more perfect, more sexual and more seductive with each book, I'm afraid to continue reading lol, this will give me a complex XDXD
