The Killer Book Of Serial Killers: Incredible Stories, Facts And Trivia From The World Of Serial Killers (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
Overall a decent book on serial killers. It was definitely more of a general overview of these killers; if you are looking for lots of details about them then this is not the book for you. The trivia section at the end was a nice touch. However, the questions were pretty tricky and made me realize how similar a lot of these serial killers are. My one main criticism of the book is all of the typos it contains. I felt like I would see one in every chapter almost. Sometimes it was the name of the killer who was misspelled (e.g. Dennis Rader spelled Dennis Reader). Other than that, a quick and interesting (yet disturbing) read. The subject matter isn't pleasant, but I'm fascinated by the mind and what drives people to do things. Also, as a writer, reading about criminals helps to create some interesting villains. This book had a good variety of killers and a nice varied way of presenting the information. It was an interesting read and I'll probably flip through it again someday. That being said, it was a little sporadic as to which killer got more information. Some had barely a page while others had 5 or 6. There didn't seem to be a real system to what information was told and how much. If you want better information there's an encyclopedia of serial killers that had more consistent, and details, information. I did like the fact that this book didn't include the pictures that some books do. Overall, I'd view this as more of a primer on serial killers than a complete facts and stories.
