The Kraken King, Part IV: The Kraken King And The Inevitable Abduction (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

Well, the title says it all. In this installment we have the Inevitable Abduction. It is Zenobia Fox, after all. Getting abducted is largely what she's been good at since we met her in Archimedes' story. However! This time we get some delicious character development in addition to some long-awaited relationship development. (The anticipation in this book has been seriously delightful.)Another strong entry! So I’m at part 4 in the serial, which mostly takes place in the Red City, a breathtaking place with an intriguing history. Ariq is determined to exact his ultimatum from Zenobia, and she decides it’s time to reveal some secrets and maybe even give herself in to a pleasurable encounter with the Kraken King before they’re separated by their respective missions. Separation? Ariq doesn’t seem to think that’s going to happen; after all, like his namesake he does not let go.But what does happen is the abduction mentioned in the title. I won’t give away any details, but I just want to say that the way it’s carried out is very unique, and had me going back to read the previous section and see where the tide had, indeed, turned against our couple’s favour.Ariq and Zenobia are captured together, but soon forced to part. However, before they’re separated he makes a breathtaking gesture to her in front of their captors, one that promises absolute destruction for anyone who harms her in his absence. And now the wait resumes. This book really does haunt me from one week to the next, as I wonder what the next step will be in Ariq and Zenobia’s relationship, and in their efforts to navigate the political intrigue that pursues them both.
