Leggere il primo libro di uno dei propri autori preferiti è sempre una sensazione particolare; quando poi il libro è in lingua originale, il tutto assume un'aura ancora più intrigante, dando l'impressione di essere ancora più vicino al narratore della vicenda.Nel mio caso l'acquisto di "The Lasko Tangent" in lingua originale è stata una scelta obbligata, dato che si tratta di uno dei quattro romanzi di Richard North Patterson colpevolmente mai pubblicati in Italia."The Lasko Tangent" è un romanzo d'esordio ed in quanto tale va valutato: scritto dall'autore allora ventinovenne, si tratta del suo primo esperimento nel mondo della narrativa e del primo mattone dell'universo narrativo che creerà poi negli anni.Il libro ha come protagonista un Christopher Paget alla sua primissima apparizione: ventinovenne come l'autore, avvocato della Commisione per i Reati Economici che incappa in un caso di transazioni azionarie irregolari che si rivela molto più di quel che sembra; un caso apparentemente semplice diventa velocemente collegato ad un omicidio e ad un rapimento, oltre a ramificarsi fino a toccare in qualche modo la Casa Bianca.Un romanzo d'esordio, dicevo, sicuramente acerbo in molti punti, ma che già mostra molte delle caratteristiche che renderanno i successivi libri di Patterson dei piccoli grandi gioielli.Chi mastica l'inglese e chi vuole leggere proprio tutto di Patterson (e penso soprattutto ad una persona che leggerà questo post) deve assolutamente procurarselo.
My first R N Patterson book and definitely not my last. I noted from other reviewers that his early books were not as good. If that's the case I look forward to reading all his later stuff. I agree that the plot was not twisting and turning every other page, but sometimes I just want to read something not too taxing and easy to follow. I liked the humourless banter of the 'maverick' lawyer, Chris Padgett, although it did start to get mildly tedious towards the end. The good little guy up against the bad, high flying, powerful businessman and a host of others. It's well written, good characters, easy to read and not too long. I wasn't looking for anything too challenging and that's exactly what I got.

I read this book many years ago, when it was first published. I decided to re-read it and see if I still liked this author. I started with The Lasko Tangent because it's the first, chronologically, in the Christopher Paget series.I found it as interesting, absorbing and well-written as I remember finding Richard North Patterson's novels in the past. THIS Patterson is a lucid, well-spoken writer who presents his characters in such a way that they are memorable. It isn't necessary to keep referring back to previous chapters to remember who is who. Now I look forward to Degree of Guilt, next in the Christopher Paget saga.
