If what you want is an easy to read, predictable, straight forward plot driven narrative do not even consider this book. On the other hand if you're looking for a roller coaster ride, don't bother breaking the rules create your own from the get go piece of amazing creative genius grab this book and don't let go until its last word slams you in the gut to leave you slumped in delighted exhaustion, this is your read! I have mixed feelings about this book. The beginning kind of turned me off. The writing style was really different to me and it took a while to get used to it. The "old boy" chapters were weird. I almost gave up on the book and quit it altogether. But it got interesting at just the right time. I got sucked in then. I'm still not completely sure I understand all of it, but boy, did it get depressing! I just I should have realized that. The kid didn't repress those memories because they were happy ones, afterall. I'm not sure I would recommend this book to others. It is a bit depressing and there are some very "adult" themes going on.
