The Legend Of The Bloodstone (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
I was recommended this book through Goodreads because I am a fan of historical romance and time travel. I finished this book in 2 days. Firstly the cover was awesome and second I read the description and was sold right away. The writing was good and had a pace to it that seem to flow easily. The author does a great job of making sure you know these characters even before the 5th chapter. I love the idea of time travel I think the author did a wonderful job of telling the story of Maggie and Winn. Maggie is a red haired college student in 2012. While she is out on the farm doing her daily duties and keeping busy she is accidentally thrown back in time to 1622 by a mysterious bloodstone. Winkeohkwet is of the Paspahegh people, of the Powhatan tribe, he is the War Chief. He is torn between his duty to kill all Time Walkers or keep her for himself. I always love a sassy main character and Maggie hits the mark. Love, Loss and adventure all packed in this great read. I cannot wait to read the next one. In the meantime I am going to re-read and recommend to my other time-travel reader friends. I'm a big historical romance fan, especially Native American ones, so when I read the synopsis for this book I was instantly intrigued. To bring both past and present together they way the author did was really unique and had me devouring this book in one sitting. I loved the Hero Winn. He was strong, fierce but also caring and wasn't afraid to show his feelings to the ones he loved. At times he could be quite bossy but it was always for the good of his family. I loved his relationship with his brothers, they were some of my favorite secondary characters. Maggie was a little hard to love at times but I did like her. She could be stubborn and quite selfish but once you think about all the changes she has/had to make you sympathize with her more. She adapted really well to her new surroundings and embraced her new family with open arms. I really did admire her. I can't really explain what I loved about this book except that the characters, plot and writing just all worked for me. There was never a time was I was bored or wishing to be done with it. If anything once I got to the end I was sad to see this chapter in their journey over. I was quick to start book 2, Return of the Pale Feather and devour that as well. Stories like this one, where the author develops another world for her readers is what I love about books. From the first page you are transported to another time and feel like you are living through these characters. It was amazing! If you are like me and enjoy a historical read with a twist I highly recommended this book and to continue with the series. You won't be disappointed. Looking forward to more from this author!
