The Lifeguard (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

The writing is just so, so bad. The opening is her walking into the water, already proving herself to be foolish and self-involved, and then the book goes back in time (I guess) with an almost identical scene. Then the author does something I loathe, which is to write two paragraphs then skip ahead. Then two paragraphs, then skip ahead. It's so stop and go. It's like the story can't carry me away because it keeps stopping to tie its shoelaces.Couldn't even finish it. Read other reviews and saw that the problem I had from the very beginning is all it is for the entire book. I only picked it up because it had a pretty good review average, and the cover was intriguing. I'll always pick up a book that seems light, but is supposed to have something more. But no. ~Rating: 3 and 1/2 StarsPilot. I just don't trust him. Like, he's a great guy but he was so secretive and quiet for a good chunk of the book. Then all the sudden: "Yeah, I do like you Sirena. I'll kiss you back." It took him for ever to realize it and to be honest, it bugged me. He also doesn't seem like a real genuine guy.Sirena. She annoyed me. She's obsessed with Pilot, the uninterested lifeguard. It's like, GET A CLUE. She's so upset with her own life and problems... very whiny. All she wanted to do was get Pilot's attention no matter the cost. I think Sirena learned a lot from her mistakes, but I also think that she didn't quite understand the concept of understanding and change. She was quick to judge and become jealous over things that weren't even real.Antonio. I loved this character. He was so wise and thoughtful. We need more Antonio's on Earth today.:) He brought such a calming feature to this book. He was by far, my favorite character.~Summary: Overall, this book was good. I liked the plot. I think the characters could've been improved a little. It was a quick read, which I liked because I've been reading really long novels for too long. I've read better, but it was a nice summer read. Not too exciting but interesting.
