The Longevity Project: Surprising Discoveries For Health And Long Life From The Landmark Eight-Decade Study (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I listened to the audio book from the AUstin public library for free on Overdrive on my Android. Fascinating 80 year study with multiple researchers on what makes people live a long healthy life. Comes down to 3 things (as I recall)1. Be connected to a community of people (preferably one with healthy habits)2. Be in a happy relationship (a good marriage). A bad one is worse than being alone though.3. Have a life activity that involves exercise, but where the purpose is not exercise. I.e. be a golfer or gardener or dog walker, but not necessarily a gym person or jogger. Whatever that activity is, love it so you'll do it your whole life. Jocks don't win in the long run, gardeners do. This book is absolutely fascinating! It will make you think and it really does make sense. Social support, marriage, health, careers, how you think. Written in an engaging way on a person-to-person level, The Longevity Project is very easy to read and understand. It's not one of those self-help books, but it will change the way you think about a few things, and perhaps think about somethings before you do them. Who lives longest? Read the book! There are also tests through-out the book for the reader as you go along so you can see where you rate. Really terrific!
