An epiphany. His mother had insisted he wear his church clothes to the dance—shirt, tie, even matching socks. He left his glasses in his bureau, deciding they’d only gild the lily. He walked at a snail’s pace, giving the neighbors a treat. So, Sophie had received his letter, and thought it was grabby!
