The Me I Want To Be: Becoming God's Best Version Of You (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
I wish I could give this book more stars. There are few books that I consider as having significantly impacted my faith: Tozer's "Pursuit of God", Nee's "The Spiritual Man", Murray's "Abiding in the Vine" and Dallas Willard's "Divine Conspiracy" are a few. To this list I add this book and place it near the top. This is simply an amazing book on how to allow the work of the Holy Spirit transform your life.I've read all of Ortberg's book and have enjoyed them all. What I really liked about this one is comparing what he writes now to one he wrote much earlier on this same topic entitled "The Life You've Always Wanted". You can see his own growth spiritually, and it adds credence to what he is writing. Ortberg also has a way of mixing humor with emotional moments that seem to allow the truth to sink deeper into your heart instead of just residing in your head. This is a classic. This is one I not only highly recommend to all, but will probably buy and give to my friends. (In case you can't tell, I loved this book.) Even though I wasn't very impressed with it, I give this book 3 stars because there were some really good insights in the book. Lots of things I highlighted. Overall I did not really like the author's style. It was too gimmicky or glib at times.Other times it seemed like a copy and paste of lots of good ideas that weren't actually the authors. (He has a lot of quotes in the book) Overall, it seemed to be trying to be very deep but it wasn't as deep as it thought it was. My favorite chapters were the ones on work. Still, it was a good read for being free on Kindle and I think if you want a more light-heartened book on sanctification or "growing in grace" this could be a good option.
What do You think about The Me I Want To Be: Becoming God's Best Version Of You (2009)?
Practical, helpful and encouraging. I am sure that I will be going back to this book several times.
