The Mental Floss History Of The United States: The (Almost) Complete And (Entirely) Entertaining Story Of America (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
well finally finished this book for u.s. institutions! I enjoyed parts of the book but there were also a lot of parts that dragged on! I did enjoy the funny and sarcastic commentary in parenthesis every once in a while though! to learn/get a basic knowledge of history in America this book does a great job and I would recommend it, but being and American and just in general, I felt like I already knew everything that it talked about. I believe this is the first 3-star book I also rated as 'solid-read'.Why? Well, for a reader who is completely clueless about history and culture of the USA, this book will do no good. The rest will be amused by its puns, disclosing of less known, spicy details, anti-textbook angle, hypocrisy past and modern, unwise and plain devious decision of rulers, development of certain trends and movements, etc. In a word - it is fun to read. This book has no aspirations of being a serious and well-balanced read, and I do mean that in a positive way. It is informative at best, recommendable as a brush up on already acquired general knowledge, but recommendable nevertheless.
What do You think about The Mental Floss History Of The United States: The (Almost) Complete And (Entirely) Entertaining Story Of America (2010)?
Was entirely TOO entertaining. Major detraction was that there were no sources cited. NONE.

History presented in a breezy, entertaining fashion. A quick read, short chapters/sections.

I really enjoyed this backroom anecdotal romp through us history.
