The Misbehaving Marquess (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Personally, I think Jamie got off too easy. I understand why he was hurt and angry - but he says that he believed that she hadn't had an affair - but he still leaves for 5 years. 5 years without a word and it seemed like he only came back because his heir died. Not because he missed Cat or because he forgave her but because he needed an heir. In his defense Cat did something really stupid and did not think of how her actions would affect Jamie. But to pout about it for 5 years! What she did was stupid but the punishment did not fit the crime. I think Cat let him off too easy - he didn't grovel at all - sure he admitted that he was a fool to stay away so long - but that is not good enough. He hurt her worse than she hurt him. He punished her for being stupid and wounding his pride. He left and didn't communicate with her at all for 5 years because she hurt his feelings. 5 years! I think if it had been a year I could have forgiven him. Or even if he had written to her over the years - but he didn't. And she doesn't even ask if he was faithful to her over those years. She says she was faithful to him and he says nothing. I could have even forgiven him if he at least admitted that he had been faithful - but he didn't. The story was well written and had a bit of steam - but I just couldn't get past him abandoning her for 5 years! Jamie and Cat – Away for years nursing a broken heart, Jamie has returned home suddenly. I loved the way the words flowed – almost like poetry – in many places in this book. I could not get myself to like either Jamie or Cat too much for letting their egos get in the way for just way too long. Too many wasted years of nursing wounds and fearing the unknown reactions of the other. I liked what Cat did with her efforts to improve the lives of those who needed help most – the women and children. Jamie spent his time thinking of Cat during his travels and buying gifts with her in mind – that was another sweet part of the story. Some lines I liked in this book“Quiet settled as quiet does on a tame Wednesday afternoon”“Sorrow,or something like it,knocked at the heavy door of her heart. Cat refused to let it in."“She should maintain distance from the man who had dashed her soul against the rocks of heartbreak”“She shivered everywhere, a leaf on a tree trembling in the windNo. She stepped back. No, she was not some small thing to be blown this way or that by the whims of her husband. She was solid, she was the tree itself. She was not dangling in the air, ready to fall with the change of the weather. She had sent her roots deep into the earth.”Rating: B-

I don't get the title and how it goes with the story. But a nice short love story.
