If you like The Christmas Box, you will definitely love this book by the same author. Richard Evans is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. A woman who always eats alone in the food court of the building where she works, is approached by a perfect stranger that she has noticed also eating alone. He says he is tired of always going alone to parties and other functions, especially in the Christmas season, and proposes that for the next eight weeks, until Christmas, that they pretend to everyone that they a couple. He even draws up a contract, which expires on Christmas Day. The ruse works, more than either had hoped. He sends her presents on a daily basis, takes her out to eat at fancy restaurants, takes her with him to his law firm's parties, and generally makes his friends believe that he finally has found someone. However, both are hiding deep, dark secrets from their pasts that they do not want to come out. Will her former husband, who has now been dumped by his new wife, work his way back into her life? Will he cause a split in the budding romance? Will love win, and a new contract need to be written, or does Christmas Day find an end to their interlude? After I found out Elise's secret I didn't think the author could ever make me feel she deserved any sympathy. But the book is about forgiveness and redemption and I was finally able to hope things turned out well for Elise. I agree with criticisms of this book that say it was predictable. But I didn't care because this was a book I couldn't put down. A well done Cinderella story with a dark twist.
