The Morganville Vampires, Volume 1 (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
First of all, I'm not in the young adult demographic, which definitely skews the way I related to this book. I give it a couple of stars for having vampires in charge of the town, but it loses a few for having an absolute goose as the main character. If you can't deal with a 16 year old girl constantly insisting that she's a grown up, yet making the most idiotic choices available, then this book isn't for you. And if you find it exceedingly painful that the same character is whiny about those choices, and yet still has everyone irresistibly drawn to her (including the oldest and most enigmatic vampire in town), then don't even start this one. As for me, once I suspended disbelief enough to get past the stupid, I enjoyed this enough to read the second and third installations in the series. It's better than Twilight. This whole series is great. After twilight, I SWORE to myself "No vampire books. Never again." but JESUS THIS SERIES IS SO AMAZING. I love how each book flows into each other. They feel like you took a giant book and broke it into tiny ones. And there's romance, but it's not... gross. The action is great. I have never been more disappointed to not finish a series in my life. (I CANT FIND THE REST OF THE BOOKS ANYWHERE!!!!!)
