Good strong characters, well constructed universe, sensible laws of magic, a plotline that sucked me in, and a good steampunk flavor to the whole! Would have liked just a smatter more romance, but I'll sacrifice that to a strong plot any day!I do hope though that there's a sequel or that this is a series. I'd really like for the pending unhappy fate of one character to be averted! This author must be presented with a nice long stick to prod her to write faster. If she's writing anything, it's not fast enough. Want more now! This book was a brilliantly crafted bit of ingenious adventure. I absolutely adored the underlying themes in the book. They were well designed and not overwrought with cliché's. I found myself both routing for the main characters and simultaneously wanting to throat punch them. I loved that neither one of them was perfect, yet in their imperfections they found their equals. I can't say enough good things about this book, so I will simply just leave my review short and say that I loved this story. It will definitely be on my re-read list this year.
