Book: I survived the nazi invation Date: September 28th, 2014Author: Lauren Tarshis Title: I Survived: The Nazi Invasion Plot: Max Rosen and his sister Zena are living in Esties, Poland, a place that has been seized by the Nazis. With thousands of Jewish citizens placed in crowded ghettos, and Max's father taken away by the Germans with the possibility of never seeing him again, Max is fighting for survival to both eat and live. How will he survive the horror that he is enduring?Setting: Esties, Poland; Loda Forest; During the Second World WarCharacters: Max Rosen, Mr. Rosen/Papa, Zena Rosen, Hannah Rosen, Dr. Latham, Mr. Jablonski, Martin, Lev, Dr. ZelmanPoint-of-View: Third-Person Theme: Freedom, Survival, War, Death, Hope Style: Non-fiction Events, Fictional Characters; Informational; The Robin bird mentioned in the book represented both hope and freedom. Copyright: 2014Notes: This was by far one of my favorite I SURVIVED books in the series because the subject and topic was well-written in a way that it wasn't gruesome, but any reader reading this can see how the victims in the prison camps and ghettos were treated, how they were attacked and how they were killed. The Holocaust is by no means a easy subject to discuss, but reading the book through the eyes of a young boy in my opinion could help any student understand what is going on in the story. I also love the fact there are real facts and information about the true events that occurred during WW2 and the Holocaust. Plus I had a chance to read for the first time about "Partisans"; they reminded me of Freedom Fighter or some sort of "Resistance" group. I personally would like to read more information about those groups that formed. In the eighth grade (or at least from what I remember), we discussed the Holocaust quite thoroughly. Plus, my teacher was actually Jewish herself, so she had a lot of stories to tell, which gave me more of an appreciation of learning about the Holocaust through her class and through her family upbringing. I think this is a great book to have in my future library. Plus I would recommend this book to read for a unit discussing the Holocaust.
