The Next Forever (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

One night in college can change everything...Away at college, Amy just wants one night alone without her high school sweetheart, Joe. So when he invites her to go to the library, she heads off on her own instead. How she ended up at a house party with the mysterious bad-boy Trevor is another story...Joe so isn't going to the library. He needs space from Amy, too, so he's decided to rush a fraternity, to get back the swagger he had in high school. But it doesn't take long for the brothers to invite him to the real rush--where the beer is flowing and one particular girl has set her eyes on Joe.Over the course of one wild night, both Amy and Joe will have to decide if their futures belong with two new people, or whether the next forever will have their first loves in it.You kind of get the feeling that Amy is not going anywhere with the relationship with Trevor. But Joe on the other hand, seems to have a problem getting Emily out of his mind. A cute short story that seems to go on for ever and ever. There are parts that even I brushed by. All in all 3 stars. I so wanted to love this book. It was getting some pretty good reviews and when I was trying to figure out what to read next, something about it grabbed me. But oh my gosh this was awful. These characters are supposed to be in college but they act like they are in high school. The whole book takes place over one night. That's it. A frat party. I was reading the book on my kindle and I realized how long the party was going on (really dragging on) so I looked at the percentage I was at and realized I was at 67%. I think my mouth dropped and I was instantly annoyed. I kept thinking, so this is the story? A frat party and an insecure girl's thoughts? Nothing really even happened with the characters. They're boring and the title makes no sense to the book.I am not trying to rag on the author, at all. The writing was okay and clearly other people have liked it. But the book at the end of the day...not worth my money. I was impressed, though, with the inner dialogue, which carried the book. I don't know. Decide for yourself, I guess.
