While the ratings at beginning of this book said edge of your seat chilling horror book, I was quite disappointed. While the novel itself was consistent, and came together rather well, the ending was very poor. I found the plot to be very predictable, and was not on the edge of my seat can't put book down nor scary. Overall, I was disappointed. Sorry. I'm still giving it a 2 star, as I still finished reading the book and it really takes a lot to rate a book saying I didn't like it. Fitting to read a book involving a seemingly haunted house (and definitely haunted souls) in the lead-up to Halloween. Bohjalian, once again, created a story involving wounded souls working to make their world right. If I found him a little heavy handed at times with this, and the foreshadowing a little loud, that doesn't mean it's not a worthwhile book. I just usually adore his books, so I am a little disappointed that I merely liked this one.
What do You think about The Night Strangers (2011)?
I could not get past the second person narrative. I found it extremely annoying!

Nice and spooky, and pretty clever. Strong ending.
