Humorous, touching, and very well written, The Other Guy made for a hugely enjoyable read.Emory's narrative was brilliant, all neurotic and self deprecating. The Avoid-and-hope-it-goes-away tactic is my go-to in all difficult situations, so I could totally relate to his actions. I really felt for him as his blind-eye-turning choices buried him ever deeper in poop.He and Nate together were adorable, and their banter was great. Linn, too, was fantastic -everyone needs a straight talking, no shit taking friend such as her.I do feel, however, more could have been made of certain aspects to up the impact/tension/drama a wee notch. And, though I liked the fact this book abstained from explicit sex scenes, I think a further few steps from tame may have enhanced it some (most notably that first time; glossing over such a monumental marker of change in Emory's life was not a particularly effective approach). i actually really liked this one. emory's narration is funny, witty, with a touch of insecurity that will surely make you fond of him and want to slap him with his bouts of stupidity, which is what he has linn for.also, my wish came true. well, the gay crisis/freak out was handled well--not overly dramatic, focusing more on the fear of how his loved ones would react, considering he's a person who comforts himself as being 'normal and ordinary', living his life organization and steadiness, etc. i can perfectly relate with him and his conflict as a person who isn't that fond of changes and taking risks if there's a possibility of not being accepted.so yeah, though the plot seemed cliche, it was written well and i would certainly be happy to read more about emory and nate (and linn and hal) or at least read cary attwell's future works.

Cute story and love how "PG13" it was. Refreshing.
