Nope. This one was not for me.I don't think I bothered to read the synopsis when I checked this out so I didn't know what to expect. Judging by the title, I thought maybe it was a matronly ya ya traveling pants sort of thing, a cheap and easy but entertaining story about the shenanigans of some frugal old ladies. Instead, it's the horribly predictable tale of a middle aged shopaholic saving for divorce. I found it all pretty dull but perhaps a very naïve reader who can take the story at face value might find it less predictable and one who, like the main character, has a desperate need to learn some very basic money management skills might find it more valuable.I didn't like the narration, either. Was she doing that weird accent on purpose? My opinion of her did markedly improve, though, when I remembered to turn on fast mode. Factoring out the narrator and factoring in the fact that I never disliked this enough to quit (actually, a couple of times I did but concluded that changing out audiobooks in the middle of chores is very inconvenient so maybe this book isn't really that bad), I give it 2 stars. I love Sarah's voice, which rings so true in most of her works. Penny Pinchers is no exception. Whether citing NJ in the 80's or the fiscal crisis of today, there's so much to smile and nod about while reading. Laugh out loud moments are a bonus. Even though I suspected the truth almost from the start, I loved turning each and every page of this story of Kat, Griff, and Liam. The club members were an added bonus of characterization, each one with a surprising secret! Wonderful, fun read!
