The Power Of Patience: How This Old-Fashioned Virtue Can Improve Your Life (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
I am really enjoying this book! It's a sweet reminder to simplify the things that worry us in life and have us grasping at anything to control. The sections are categorized by topic- all relating to varied aspects of patience, of course- and they are just short enough to read at the end of the day as you reflect on all of your stresses and let them go. I can apply what I find in this book, especially the quotes, to how I'm learning to be patient in my life, and the stories help me to realize how blessed I am. It is reassuring to know how important patience is, especially in this culture of speed, anxiety, and all kinds of pressure to live up to certain expectations. This book is encouraging. My favorite quote from the book: "How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving , and tolerant of the weak and the strong - because someday you will have been all of these." George Washington Carver The book is full of wisdom: the author's and others. She lays out steps to reclaim the neglected virtue of patience and even includes a list of 20 simple patience boosters at the end. Something I always can use a refresher on! She says that the most important thing to know is "Patience is something you do, not something you have or don't have . . ."
