I read this because I'm currently writing my own women's fiction series, and wanted to see what a really successful author like Jackie Collins had to offer (to pick up some tips, perhaps)... I have to say, I really enjoyed it!The writing itself is fairly straightforward, I mean, we're not here to absorb highbrow literature... but the plotting is really clever. The book opens with a murder, and I honestly had no idea who died and who did it until the end! For me, that's very impressive, as I normally pick those things immediately... but Jackie wove in a myriad of little side stories and red herrings that had me wondering.I found it entertaining, easy to read, and it had me turning the pages. It also made me want to read more. I'm not comparing it to any of her previous work (I haven't read any for years), nor to any other author. I think the book stands on its own as a fun, engrossing summer holiday read. Thanks, Jackie. It WAS an inspiration! Don't waste your time. I knew what I was picking up when I bought this book for $6. Jackie Collins provides pure escapism. Her books are filled with sex, lust, power hungry people, global intrigue and the rich and glamorous. There was nothing really memorable about this book, but it makes for a great beach read and I didn't feel compelled to keep reading to get the next page. With that said, she is very, very good at what she does - the female Sidney Sheldon and I do enjoy these voyages to another reality.
What do You think about The Power Trip (2012)?
By the time I started getting "involved" with the characters the book was nearly over.

This book was such a disappointment... Loathed the crazy characters in it.
